Literature at the Third Latin American Readings at MSU (2025): Academic Life

This review article examines the topoi and issues in literary studies that were discussed at the 3rd International Conference “Latin American Readings”, held at the Faculty of Philology of Lomonosov Moscow State University on November 20–23, 2025. The forum was dedicated to the memory of the distinguished Hispanist and Latin Americanist V.S. Vinogradov, whose centenary was commemorated at MSU. More than 100 participants took part in both plenary and panel sessions, round tables, and workshops. Presentations were given by faculty members and researchers from leading Russian universities, academic institutes, and museums, as well as international specialists. Nearly one third of the 48 papers and presentations addressed the literary process in Latin American countries. The article outlines the main ideas of papers devoted to Latin American worldview, cultural codes in literature, and specific issues in literary studies. The plenary session featured eight papers on general trends in Latin American culture, including Iberian spiritual heritage, intercivilizational connections, the formation of literary models, and the specific features of folkloric worldview. The section dedicated specifically to literature (10 papers) covered a wide range of issues related to literary translation, genres, Soviet-Latin American literary contacts, as well as film adaptations of literary works. During the presentations, conference participants were introduced to rare and newly published books, striking examples of Latin American painting, monuments, portraits of writers, and film fragments; poetry by Latin American authors was recited. Invited specialists from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) conducted workshops highlighting current trends in Latin American literary studies.
